Celebrating Innovation and Collaboration: Preksha Goyal’s 10-Week Journey with BOT

The Bureau of Tourism (BOT) proudly celebrates the successful completion of a 10-week internship by Preksha Goyal, a graduate student from Carnegie Mellon University. During her time with BOT, Ms. Goyal made significant contributions toward advancing Palau’s digital infrastructure in tourism and information management.

Under the guidance of the Director of BOT, Ms. Goyal worked diligently to help create the Destination Information Management System (DIMS)—a centralized app and database soon to launch. This system connects Palau’s state governments, NGOs, and stakeholders, providing a shared platform for accessible, up-to-date information on Palau’s tourism industry and related areas.

On Thursday, July 24, at the Palau Civic Center, Ms. Goyal presented the DIMS to the Minister of Human Resources, Culture, Tourism & Development (MHRCTD), members of the House of Delegates, the Senate, MHRCTD staff, and her colleagues at BOT. The presentation was met with enthusiasm and valuable feedback from attendees, further emphasizing the importance of such a platform for national coordination and tourism development.

Also featured at the event were representatives from JICA, Mr. Otsuka and Ms. Riho, who presented the second phase of Palau’s Public Transport System. Their presentation introduced key improvements such as updated bus stops and expanded timetables—critical updates that will also be integrated into DIMS to help travelers and residents alike.

As her internship drew to a close, Ms. Goyal was honored by the BOT Director and staff, who presented her with heartfelt gifts and tokens of appreciation to remember her time in Palau. Her dedication, insight, and collaborative spirit left a lasting impact on the team and the work she helped propel forward.

Preksha Goyal’s time with the Bureau of Tourism has exemplified the value of international cooperation, innovation, and the power of youth leadership in sustainable development. Her contributions to the DIMS project represent a meaningful step forward in streamlining Palau’s tourism and public information systems. As she returns to continue her academic journey, the BOT extends its deepest gratitude and warmest wishes for her future endeavors. Ke kmal mesulang, Preksha!
