Welcome to the Bureau of Cultural and Historical Preservation (BCHP) of Palau. Established in 1978, our mission is to safeguard and promote the rich cultural and historical heritage of Palau for future generations.

We are committed to preserving the unique traditions, languages, and sites that define our nation’s identity and history.

As a division of the Ministry of Human Resources, Culture, Tourism, and Development, the BCHP plays a crucial role in protecting Palau’s cultural resources. Our work spans archaeological research, ethnographic documentation, and the promotion of cultural education. We also oversee the Palau Historic Register, a comprehensive list of registered sites that represent the very essence of Palau’s cultural legacy.

Our dedicated team of professionals works tirelessly to:

  • Survey and Protect archaeological and historical sites across the islands
  • Preserve oral histories and ethnographic knowledge through community engagement and research
  • Advocate for the sustainable use and respect of Palau’s cultural heritage
  • Foster Education and awareness through programs and resources for residents and visitors alike

At BCHP, we believe in the power of cultural preservation to enhance the understanding of who we are as a people. We invite you to explore the incredible history of Palau, connect with our projects, and join us in our efforts to ensure that our heritage remains a source of pride and inspiration for generations to come.
